about
my story
Jackelin Mejia is a Mexican American photographer based in Pittsburgh whose work explores a range of artistic perspectives and creative expression. As the first artist in her family, she brings a deeply personal perspective and distinct visual style to her photography. Her growing presence in the local art community was recognized through her inclusion in the 2025 Jury Art Show exhibition. Mejia continues to develop her artistic practice through new projects that reflect her evolving perspective, identity, and creative voice.
My process
My work aims to create its own identity, existing in the space between chaos and structure, messy, organized, and everything in between. I resist confining my photography to a single category, because I believe art doesn’t have to be defined by one thing when it can hold many meanings at once. Instead, I approach my work with intention and raw emotion, not to provide clear answers but to raise questions inviting space for reflection and encouraging viewers to think beyond their own perspectives. It’s about looking outward, staying aware, and engaging thoughtfully with the messages I choose to explore.
